Replacing Motorola DP4400 and DP4000-series radios

Check the model, frequencies and network settings before replacing a Motorola radio. A suitable replacement may have different controls or branding.

Check the model on the label

Read the full model and frequency variant from the radio label, for example DP4400 VHF or DP4400 UHF. Record any suffix, ATEX marking and enabled options. The manufacturer DP4000 sheet below covers the DP4400, DP4600 and DP4800 families; the shared family name does not identify the hardware version.

If the model is unclear, select “Not listed” in Help me choose and include the label details. Keep the existing radios and their programming available for comparison.

Match the network settings

A replacement must cover every programmed transmit and receive frequency. VHF and UHF versions are different hardware; matching the brand or family name is insufficient.

For analogue channels, check FM channel width, CTCSS/DCS tones, selective calling and repeater settings. For DMR, check the digital channel settings, including colour code, time slot and talkgroup. Confirm which mode the network actually uses, even if the radio supports both.

Choose the controls and features you need

A keypad or display does not by itself prevent a radio working on a network that uses simpler controls. It may therefore be possible to combine suitable models to reach the quantity required.

Encryption, privacy, emergency signalling and managed or trunked systems need an exact feature and configuration check. Batteries, chargers and audio accessories also need their own fit checks. For ATEX use, confirm the required certification and approved supplied battery and accessories separately.
